Souderton Area High School Holiday Concert - December 15, 2023
These photos were an experiment of using an older "all in one" camera with a long lens and a small sensor to capture images from a distance. The camera is a Nikon P900 with a zoom range from 24mm to 2000 mm. The camera was stabilized on a monopod.  Post processing was in Topaz Photo AI for noise reduction, Lightroom for general adjustments and Luminar Neo for enhanced resolution.

At the Souderton Area Senior High Winter Concert, the light temperature varied quite a bit with the background. For some images, full color worked. For others, there were too many colors to show natural complexions. So... black and white. Vignetting helps the eye focus on the subjects.
The stage light varied from one part of the stage to another. Since the light sources were close and directional, they produced some unflattering nose highlights.

Portrait of our artist - Grandson who thinks and feels deeply. Caught during a pensive moment.

Details: Another experiment. Took our Nikon P900 with its 83x zoom (24mm-2000mm equivalent). Of course, this range is only possible by using a small sensor with a wide zoom range.

Sat in the balcony with the camera mounted on a monopod. 1/60 @ 6.3mm, ISO 1100. Equivalent to 35mm shooting at 1458mm.
The question was, "can I get "good" images in these conditions?" Does "good" technique overcome mediocre equipment?

Sunflower at the end of the season. Fading away, like we all do. Filled with seeds that will bring a new generation in the Spring.

It's been a year since I've updated my blog. I'll be more consistent as I move my posts from Facebook to here. Too much noise on FB.

I've followed this sunflow through the summer and fall.  Was enjoyable and fascinating.  Sometimes pretty, sometimes - just a plant life.
